Boston Rum Social Club’s First Blind Tasting at Apex Noire
On March 25th, the Boston Rum Social Club (BRSC) hosted its very first blind tasting event at Apex Noire. With 17 enthusiastic participants, the evening was a friendly yet educational competition, designed to challenge and refine our collective rum knowledge.
Each contestant sampled seven different rums and answered multiple-choice questions about the raw material, age, ABV, distillation method, and country of origin. The lineup for our inaugural blind tasting featured an exciting and diverse selection of rums:
Papalin Jamaica High Ester – Details
Rhum J.M BRSC Pick – Details
Mount Gay Black Barrel (Cask Strength) – Details
Shakara – Details
Beenleigh 2013 – Details
Privateer RCA – Details
Raising Glasses Ecuador BRSC Pick – Details
To add to the fun, each participant also received a mystery blind sample to take home, with the challenge of identifying its key characteristics.
Congratulations to John, Julie, Tom, and Ben, who scored the highest points and took home prizes! A huge thank you to John and Lorri from Raising Glasses for their invaluable help with logistics, and of course, to our generous hosts at Apex Noire for making this event possible.
The night didn’t end there—the afterparty on the rooftop bar with club members was a perfect way to wrap up an incredible evening of rum exploration and camaraderie.
We can’t wait to host our next blind tasting—stay tuned for details, and in the meantime, keep sipping and learning!
